The closest and most well known stretch of river is the "Dream Stream" a Gold Medal section of the South Platte below Spinney dam which flows into Eleven Mile Reservoir.  Only eight minutes by car this 5.5 mile stretch of river is easily waded and an excellent dry fly fishing river.   The Dream Stream is walk-in wading only water (no boats or rafts).  Record Rainbows, Browns and Cut-Bows are found in this remarkable fishery.  When staying at the Adobe you have the advantage over other anglers, who may drive two hours or more to fish the Dream Stream, by fishing the evening rise or the early morning hatches you may have the river to yourself.  And during the slower parts of the day you can retreat to the Adobe, read, tie flies, play pool, ping pong, watch movies in the home heater or explore the many other Colorado recreational activities just out your door.

Within one hour from the Adobe, there is arguably more accessible public water than anywhere in Colorado.  Eleven Mile Canyon below the Eleven Mile Dam is a classic western river with pocket water and long runs.  The drive there is about 20 minutes.  There are miles of the South Platte above Spinney reservoir also available to the public from less than 20 minutes to 40 minutes away.  Cheesman Canyon, perhaps the most famous part of the South Platte, is 45 minutes away.  The Dream Stream and Cheesman are catch and release only.  Other stretches of the Platte and its tributaries allow fish to be taken.
